Dark-Eyed Junco

Speedball speedy cut linoleum

2” x 3”

2017

This was made during a “15 prints in 30 days” challenge wherein I gave myself the general theme of birds native to Montérégie, Québec.

Dark-Eyed Juncos used to be quite rare in this area, but in the last decade, they’ve enjoyed wintering at the feeders around my parent’s house. I’ve always thought they’re so ridiculously cute - the size of a chickadee but with fluffy white pantaloons under dark top feathers.

I later used the design on both hand-pulled greeting cards and cork coasters. They were sold at several shops in Montréal including the McCord Museum boutique.
