Commissions FAQ

  1. Are you currently accepting commissions?

No, my books are closed until further notice (tentative return opening date April 2023). If you’d like to shoot me an email to discuss a future project, feel free to do so HERE or check out my commission catalogue HERE.

  2. What subjects can I request?

I have a commission catalogue of sample projects HERE. My specialties are animals, botanicals, and buildings. While I sometimes accept commissions for human portraiture, I will prioritize projects without people as the main subject.

  3. Do you have examples of past commission projects?

Yes! Check them out on my main commissions page HERE.

  4. What mediums/styles can I request?

I like to use saturated and Impressionistic colour palettes. My preferred mediums at the moment are:

    • watercolour + ink

    • watercolour + coloured pencil

    • gouache.

  5. Do you take commissions for digital art?

I’m still a noob at digital art! As such, I don’t feel comfortable charging clients for a medium I’m still learning. But maybe in the future!

  6. How long will my commission take?

Depending on complexity and size, production time can take anywhere between 4-8 weeks from the time I send you the invoice to the date it will be shipped. Please note that each project is unique, however, and this time can vary.

  7. Can I request a specific deadline?

I always welcome you to include your preferred deadline, but I can’t guarantee a project will be finished for a specific date. I wear all the hats of my small business and can’t always predict how my time will need to be juggled. That said, I can usually give a rough estimate of the month I will be finished and do my best to accommodate requests, particularly around the holiday season.

  8. Can I get a rush job?

Possibly! Rush jobs are considered ones requested with less than a month of the delivery date and/or with delivery dates earlier than my current booking period’s availability (see question #1). Depending on the deadline, a rush fee will apply. Contact me with detailed project instructions and deadlines and I’ll let you know whether I can accommodate your timeline.

  9. How much is a rush fee?

For a deadline within 21-30 days of the inquiry, a +25% rush fee will apply. For a deadline within 8-20 days of the inquiry, a +50% rush fee will apply. For a deadline within 1-7 days of the inquiry, a +100% rush fee will apply. Not all rush jobs will be possible, however, and I will let you know whether I can accommodate the deadline.

  10. How soon should I request a commission for the Christmas/holiday period?

As soon as possible. In the past, I’ve been fully booked for the holiday period as early as July. Projects requested after my bookings have been filled may not be possible to accept or will be subject to rush fees. If you require your holiday commissions to be mailed, please also take into consideration the length of time needed for arrival (note: higher shipping volumes that time of year will also mean up to 2x the transit time normally required).

  11. How do I pay?

E-transfer (preferred for Canadian orders) or via PayPal (for international orders). Payments through PayPal will have an additional processing fee.

  12. Do you accept credit/debit cards? What about cheques?

I only accept card payments for in-person transactions. Let me know in advance if you plan on paying this way. An additional 5% processing fee will apply. I do not accept cheques due to the unfortunately high frequency of scams involving them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  13. Do I need to pay in advance?

I require a non-refundable 50% deposit before beginning a project. The rest is payable upon delivery.

  14. Will the illustration come framed?

No, illustrations will not come framed or with a matt unless specified. You can request a matt or framing for an extra cost.

  15. What are post-production revisions and what do they include?

A post-production revision is an adjustment after the commission has been completed. These could include colour touchups, adding highlights/shadows, the addition of certain textures, paint splashes, etc. They are are limited to what is possible within the context of traditional media (ex. nothing can be removed, rearranged, or resized). Up to three post-production revisions are included with every commission.

  16. Can I get a digital copy of the illustration?

Absolutely! You can request the file format(s) and resolution(s) of your preference for an additional cost.

  17. Can I get additional prints of the illustration?

Yes! Let me know you’d like to order additional prints at the time of the request and we can discuss the specifications. I will give you a quote based on the printing fees.

  18. Will I get a certificate of authenticity?

Yes! Each piece of original work comes with a certificate of authenticity that includes the title, medium, year of creation, and my signature.

  19. Can I get a tracking number for the shipment?

Absolutely! Because commissions are irreplaceable, I always use a shipping method that includes tracking to guarantee its safe arrival to your doorstep. You can also choose whether you would like it to be expedited.

  20. How do I care for my original illustration?

I use high-quality lightfast materials and acid-free paper to ensure your commission will stand the test of time. If you want to be extra careful about preserving the colours, don’t hang the piece in direct sunlight, in very sunny rooms, or under fluorescent lights. Frame using UV-resistant art glass and avoid locations with high humidity.
