Cardinal

Linoleum

4” x 5”

2017

This was made during a “15 prints in 30 days” challenge wherein I gave myself the general theme of birds native to Montérégie, Québec.

One of my favourite birds to see in the winter (or any time of year honestly) is the cardinal. Their cheerful red feathers and pointed hat are a welcome sight in the otherwise colourless world of January. I experimented with a variety of ink tones when printing this one, ranging from deep crimson to bright cherry.

I later used the design on both hand-pulled greeting cards and cork coasters. They were sold at several shops in Montréal including the McCord Museum boutique.
